Light and Medium Artillery

Description

The core of the field artillery consisted of light 3-pounder (regimental) guns and medium 6-pounder guns. Heavy artillery and mortars were used in sieges. The 3-pound regimental guns were the workhorse of the war; they were easy to move so they could accompany the infantry. Thanks to this, the light mobile gun attached to infantry squadrons (brigades) substantially increased their firepower (grapeshot). In many tactical situations fire from the guns had more impact on the battlefield than musket fire.
